Duty Doctor The Duty Doctor deals with appointments for patients that are too ill to wait for an appointment on another day. This service also includes telephone assessments and home visits for those too incapacitated to visit the surgery. To see how this works please see the Appointment Flow Chart (pdf). Please note that this is a very busy service and we have to judge what is urgent and what isn't. Please consider that if you think you need to see the duty doctor but can't take the time off work then perhaps it isn't that urgent? The appointment times that we give you on this service are indicative only as the duty doctor can be called out for an emergency. Minor Illness Clinic This service is run by our Nurse Practitioner and is designed to treat common ailments in which our Nurse Practitioner is a specialist. This is a quicker route to be seen as the Duty Doctor may refer you to the Minor Illness Clinic anyway. So why not go their first? If your symptoms turn out to be more acute than envisage the doctor will be called in to see you during this appointment. The Nurse Practitioner is qualified to issue prescriptions. General Appointments These appointments are for reviews and non-urgent ailments. They can be made up to several months in advance. We do hold back some of these appointments and release them 48 hours before the appointment time. We do this to ensure that those ailments that are not urgent but require some intermediate attention can be dealt with. General appointments can be made online including those that are released 48 hours before the appointment time.
